BEFORE FRAMING

Grinding and Scoring on an Open Slab

If you want your polished concrete floor to have aggregate exposure showing the small to medium rocks, it is best done on an open slab before framing.
If a floor is to be scored without borders, ideally this should happen before framing. Concrete on a new slab is softer and ideal for scoring.

BEFORE DRYWALL

Polishing, Staining and Scoring

Floor finish and covering should be scheduled before foam insulation as the removal of foam from concrete floor requires extensive grinding.
Polishing to Grade 1 or Grade 2 aggregate exposure (cream or salt and pepper) should happen after the house is 100% dried-in but before installing drywall.
If walls are already framed, scoring can be completed including a border or to the walls with a handheld tool. Some change in texture is to be expected in this instance.

FINAL POLISH

Final polish and seal should be scheduled at the end of construction, after appliance, plumbing, and electrical installation.
